MEPA net pending caseload stands at 4,942

During the month of September, the Malta Environment & Planning Authority (MEPA) decided 543 applications and received 447 new applications. The net pending caseload at the end of the month was 4,942.
Last month, the Authority processed 97 notifications of development, which, according to the Development Notification Order 2007, do not require a formal application.
During the same month, 63 Stop and Enforcement notices were issued, 54 in Malta and 9 in Gozo. The enforcement section within MEPA closed 15 cases in Malta. 7 other enforcement cases were sanctioned by a planning permit while another 8 cases were resolved by the owners’ decision to remove their illegal development and comply with the enforcement notice.
Following the introduction of the 24 hour Emergency Service Number 2069 9595, in mid-September, the Authority received 108 calls of which 38 were Construction Site Management issues, 36 Littering, 3 Pollution, 1 Nature Protection and 30 illegal development.
The Authority also issued 111 waste carrier permits during the month.
