Schola Cantorum Jubilate is preparing for its seventh edition of ‘Carols by Candlelight’. Year after year, the demand increases and more people want to share this unique magical experience which brings around the spirit of Christmas.
This year, this production is being presented in two soirées, on Friday, the 18th and Saturday, the 19th of December at 7.30pm at St. Augustine ‘s Monastery in Victoria Gozo.
The whole event consists of a Christmas concert in the Monastery Church with a particular setting for the occasion which is different from year to year. The repertoire includes classical, traditional and new pieces mainly by Gruber, Adams, Handel, Vivaldi, Leontovych, Yon, Shawn , Rutter and Portelli. The evenings include some interpretations a cappella , vocal and instrumental solos (Marouska Attard, Philip Attard, Albert Buttigieg, Joseph Camilleri) and others accompanied by the Jubilate Chamber Orchestra.
After the concert, the participants will leave the church and enter the cloister through the foyer where an exhibition of religious articles will be held. These are going to be creations of Fr. Charles Vella who is now well known in the local artistic scene.
The meal, prepared by the Ta’ Frenc Chefs, will be served in the cloister decorated for the festive season. It’s time to celebrate…with music, good food and good wine! It’s the time which touches the hearts and makes one’s mind venture into the past years of innocence.
All the proceeds of the soirées will be forwarded to Guzeppa Debono Home of Ghajnsielem, which caters for single parents and for pro-life activities. The organisers try to deliver a message in favor of life during such a sensitive time of the year.
To add more credit to the whole production, the Monastery offers the possibility of staying overnight in one of the ensuite rooms which are available all year round. To check about the possibility of lodging in the monastery or else for further queries call on 79450950.
Tickets will be available soon from D’Amato Records Shop in Valletta and Bargate Bookshop in Victoria .
