Voluntary work carried out at Arka Respite Centre GozoFor 4 consecutive days, a group of new police recruits, made up of 16 males and 1 female, carried out voluntary work at Arka Respite Centre in Ghajnsielem. The group worked for 5 hours every day working on various tasks which included, white washing, cleaning, maintenance, gardening and even helping out in the kitchen.

This group of new police recruits was one of the several who did voluntary work at various, non profit voluntary organisations, with facilities aimed at helping the less fortunate in our society, such as life challenged people, people with disabilities, etc.

These youths, embarking on a career working for the community within the Police Corps, have all the hallmark of individuals keen on making a contribution to achieving a better society. Leading this group of young volunteers at Arka Foundation was Fr Michael Galea, Assistant Director of the Foundation.

Mgr Emanuel Curmi, Director of Arka Foundation, thanked the Commissioner of Police, who year in year out, sends cadets to organisations in order for them to participate in voluntary work. He said that it is unfair to young people to be denigrated in general because of a few that carry out pranks, or fall foul of the law. He encouraged more individuals, young and not so young, to set aside some time to volunteer to carry out necessary works at such NGO’s, as Arka Foundation.
