The Feast of St Francs of Assisi being celebrated in Victoria

The liturgical feast of Saint Francis of Assisi is celebrated annually on the 4th of October. This commemoration is solemnly held in the church dedicated to the same saint and situated at the heart of Gozo’s capital city, Victoria. The programme of religious activities began on Thursday, the 30th of September and ends on Monday, the 4th of October 2010, Liturgical feast day of the saint.
Between Thursday 30th September and Saturday 2nd October: Solemn Triduum.
Masses in the morning: 7am and 7.30am. 6.00pm: Recitation of the Holy Rosary and other Franciscan prayers.
6.30pm: Solemn Mass led by Fr. Joseph Mamo OFM Conv. and animated by the Nativitas choir of Xaghra under the direction of Mr. Ivan Attard. The celebration ends with the recitation of the traditional kurunella, Antiphon and impartation of Eucharistic Benediction.
Sunday 3rd October 2010: Eve of the Solemnity.
6.30am, 7.30am, 8.30am and 9.30am: Holy Sunday masses.
4.15pm: Recitation of some Franciscan prayers.
4.45pm: Solemn Translation of the Relic led by Rev. Fr. George Attard, Guardian of the Franciscan community in Victoria.
5.00pm: Solemn Concelebrated Mass led by Mgr Joseph Cauchi, together with the Franciscan community of Victoria and other Diocesan priests. The orchestra and Stella Maris choir will be under the direction of Mro. Carmel P. Grech.
6.00pm: Solemn Transitus led by Rev. Fr. George Attard – this annual celebration commemorates the death and resurrection of Saint Francis. The celebration ends with the recitation of the traditional kurunella, Antiphon and impartation of Eucharistic Benediction.
Monday, the 4th of October 2010: Liturgical Solemnity of Saint Francis of Assisi.
6.00am, 6.30am, 7.00am, 7.30am, 8.00am and 8.30am: Masses with homily.
5.00pm: Mass for the ‘Ghaqda Hbieb tal-Presepju’ on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of its foundation. Rev. Canon Michael Borg celebrates the Eucharist.
6.00pm: Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Franciscan prayers.
6.30pm: Solemn Pontifical High Mass led by H.L. Mgr Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo with the participation of several Gozitan priests and members of religious communities. After the reading of the Gospel, the Diocesan Bishop preaches about the message of Saint Francis in our life. The orchestra and Stella Maris choir will be under the direction of Mro. Carmel P. Grech.
The feast celebrations end with the recitation of the traditional Kurunella, singing of the Antiphon and impartation of Eucharistic Benediction.
