MEPA gives green light on visitor centre at Ggantija TemplesEarlier today the MEPA Board approved planning permission for the development of two visitors’ centers at Ggantija Temples in Xaghra Gozo and the Catacombs of St. Paul in Rabat. These two projects which were submitted by Heritage Malta and are supported by the ERDF funding are sure to add value and enhance the experience of all visitors that will visit these two world famous heritage sites.

The approved permit for Ggantija Temples also includes landscaping works, the creation of a walking route with information panels along the pathway and car parking facilities. During the presentation, Mr. Kevin Gambin, on behalf of Heritage Malta pointed out that the design of this project, was chosen following an international competition that sought to promote a structure with the least environmental impact.

At St Paul’s Catacombs, which is one of the most important archaeological sites in Malta, the Board approved the development of an interpretation centre, a children’s pavilion, information pods including 3D virtual room and landscaping works. Following the completion of this project, the majority of the catacombs at this heritage site, will be open for the public.

The MEPA board also approved, within the Pender Gardens project in St. Julians, the development of 15 residences within the villa zone. This project had been granted an outline development permit in 2005.

An application to re-instate a farmhouse in an ODZ area limits of Xghajra, which was previously operating as a chicken farm without planning permit, was refused planning permission by the MEPA board.
