As part of the European Week for Waste Reduction, the Xaghra Local Council is organising an activity with a difference with the aim of educating residents and the general public about the need of waste separation and the importance of keeping the locality as clean as possible.
This initiative continues to build on previous similar activities which were held in Xaghra last year last year, amongst them the Campaign for Clean Localities organised by the Department for Local Councils in collaboration with several Local Councils around Malta and Gozo.
The event this month will be a Car Boot Sale, which is scheduled to be held on Sunday, the 21st of November 2010 between 9.00am and 1.00pm in Victory Square. Those participating will be requested to pay a nominal registration fee of € 5.00.
With the funds collected during this activity, the Xaghra Local Council will publish educational material about the need of waste separation, recycling process and other important material which will then be distributed to all households in Xaghra by members of several non-governmental organisations found in the locality.
It is interesting to note that during this year, the Xaghra Local Council joined GreenPak to revise the present system of domestic waste collection for the benefit of the residents themselves. These are other initiatives taken by the Local Council in favour of clean localities, leading to greater maturity among residents and aimed at ameliorating their health.
