Presentation of design concept for new Victoria museum

The Fondazzjoni Belt Victoria has recently presented a totally innovative design concept for its Historical Museum and Cultural Center in the ancient heart of Victoria, Gozo, as part of the project The Making of a People, partially funded by the European Regional Development Fund (Operational Programme I – Cohesion Policy 2007-2013).
The public meeting was held at the Aula Mgr Giuseppe Farrugia of St George’s Basilica.The main speaker was Mr Chris Walker, who, together with Mr Adam Stanning has been entrusted with the design of the project. The British firm Bright White Ltd, was chosen from a number of applications submitted to the Foundation, and, now that the first phase of construction is officially complete, is working on an innovative concept for an interactive and multimedial museum presented by Mgr Dr Joseph Farrugia, senior lecturer at the University of Malta.
At the same meeting, Dr Farrugia, Project Co-ordinator, gave a contextual introduction to the whole concept of the new museum, which has obtained also co-financing from the Parliamentary Secretariat for Consumers, Fair Competition, Local Councils and Public Consultation. The museum design, as presented by the two designers from York, is launching a totally new concept in the field of museums in Malta.
The activity was held under the distinguished patronage of the Acting President of the Republic Mr Anton Tabone and Parliamentary Secretary Dr Chris Said. The Mayor of Victoria Dr Samuel Azzopardi, Heritage Malta’s chairperson Mr Joe Said, and the Head of the Culture Section within the Ministry for Gozo Mr Kevin Sciberras were also present, together with many benefactors of the project who have already submitted their donations in the scheme.
The evening concluded with comments by Mr Joe Said, who not only expressed his approval for the project and great satisfaction for a truly innovative design concept that had just been presented to the public, but also pledged the assistance of Heritage Malta in the Foundation’s initiative to foster the cultural and historical heritage of Victoria.
