Gozo boats compete in St Paul’s Bay Powerboat Grand PrixThe St Paul’s Bay Powerboat Grand Prix, 2nd round is being held on the 14th &15th of May 2011at St Paul’s Bay, Bugibba.

The Malta Powerboat Association (MPA) held its first round of championship at this location and it was a brilliant success for participants and for spectators.

For the May event the wet pit area will be located at Bugibba Jetty. This area proved to be a big hit in March, the launching of boats and teams preparing for the event thrilled the on-lookers. Many spectators mingled with drivers and asked questions which the club members were happy to answer. The tension and the excitement could be felt in the air as competitors checked their equipment and crafts in preparation for their time to race on the seas of Malta.

The race course was set and could be viewed from St Pauls Bay Primary School to Bugibba Square, with best viewing from Angelos Lido, where spectators can enjoy the weather and watch the whole length of the race, plus be in the hub of things as race control will be set at this location, spectators can interact with race officials who were are hand to answer any questions.

On Saturday, the 14th, launchings will start at 8.30am, with practice and racing getting underway at 10.15am finishing at 5.30pm

On Sunday, the 15th, racing gets underway at 10.15am finishing at 5.15pm. The podium presentation will start at 6.30pm.

For the May event the MPA have more competitors who will be taking part in racing, due to interest from the last event the MPA have now defined a race category into two, this is the Open Class single outboard engine and the Open Class Unlimited.

The MPA are pleased that two of the new members who will be racing are from Gozo. The participants come from all parts of Malta but the race is open to all Maltese and Gozitan people and the MPA are really pleased that there will be two competing boats from Gozo.

Entrants are accepted till Friday, the 13th of May in 150hp/200hp, 225hp/250hp, 300hp, Open class single engine and Open class unlimited, Cyber.
