‘Grand Operatic Concert’ being held at the Aurora Theatre

After the great success with ‘Puccini 150 – Anniversary Concert’ in 2008 as part of the festivities to commemorate the 150th anniversary from the birth Puccini, the Classique Foundation will once again present a grand vocal and orchestral concert – ‘Grand Operaic Concert.’ This concert will be held on Saturday, the 19th of November 2011, starting at 7.30pm at the Aurora Opera House in Victoria, Gozo.
To enhance the artistic level of this concert, the Management of the Classique Foundation has once again engaged the services of two internationally renowned singers, both of whom are house-hold names at important opera houses around the globe such as La Scala of Milan, Liceu of Barcellona, Carcalla of Rome, La Fenice of Venice, San Carlo of Naples, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Massimo of Catania and Palermo and Comunale of Bologna, amongt others. The singers are Italian soprano, Maria Pia Piscitelli, who early this year sung with great success the title role in Donizetti’s demanding Anna Bolena at the Liceu of Barcellona and Italian tenor, Francesco Anile, who this year featured as Turiddu in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana at La Scala under the direction of Daniel Harding.
The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be under the direction of the Foundation’s artistic director and mentor, Joseph Debrincat, a well established name in the local musical circles especially in the operatic field. The concert will include arias and duets from the most popular operas by Bellini, Verdi, Puccini, Verdi, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, Bizet, Cilea, and Giordano among others. It will also feature overtures and ballet music from the operatic repertoire.
