The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that it wishes to inform the general public that in a letter-circular dated the 1st of January 2008, the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority has informed all airlines that:
– Anyone wishing to enter Libya for tourism purposes has to carry an amount of money of not less than (1,000) one thousand US Dollars, or its equivalent in a convertible currency, to cover the cost of residence.
– This provision is applicable to all those entering Libya for tourism purposes, whether individually or as part of a tourist group organised by a travel agency.
– Those entering Libya on a Mission, to study, to visit residents or to join family members are exempted from this condition.
These instructions come into force as from 07th January 2008.
Airlines have been advised to include the above-mentioned requirement as one of the basic requirements for those travelling to Libya.
All Maltese nationals travelling to Libya on a tourism visa are advised to take note of the above requirement, in order to avoid any inconvenience when travelling.
