Ghajnsielem villagers contribute towards a better futureResidents of all ages in the Ghajnsielem community, visited the interactive exhibition and workshop held at the newly refurbished St Joseph Band Club, as part of the study into preparation of the Ghajnsielem Sustainable Locality Action Plan.

The event was organised by Adi Associates Environmental Consultants Ltd, on behalf of the Ghajnsielem Local Council. It was the culmination of a month long public consultation. In the four weeks leading up to the event, the consultants met with a wide range of NGOs, community groups and interested individuals, as well as receiving a significant number of emails and comments via the study Facebook page.

The community was asked to identify the issues affecting Ghajnsielem in relation to three areas – Sustainable Transport, Accessibility, Mobility, Sustainable Local Economy and Sustainable Energy Consumption and to suggest actions for improvement that would help move Ghajnsielem towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

The exhibition contained a display of the issues and actions that had been identified by the community.

Those who attended the event where asked to highlight which issues they considered to be the most important and the actions to be prioritised. There was also the opportunity to identify more issues and actions. It was also an opportunity for peole to discuss the issues with the consultants present. There were some very interesting and positive discussions, particularly with the children and youth who attended.

There is still time for the villagers of Ghajnsielem to forward any comments on the Action Plan. Comments will be accepted by email or by post until Friday 23rd September 2011.
