Gaulitana: A Festival of Music continues with 2 more eventsGaulitana: A Festival of Music got underway last Sunday with a sacred concert at St. Augustine Church, Victoria, Gozo. The concert held in collaboration with the Victoria Local Council featured the orgainsers of the festival, the Gaulitanus Choir.

The sacred works performed were all in the english language. The principal work performed was a premiere for the maltese islands, “Easter Trilogy,” a cantata in 3 suites for choir and narrators by American composer Benjamin Harlan (narrators: Sue Scantleberry and Paul Barnes), which also included the participation of the audience.

The other works performed were 2 medleys of British / American sacred songs arranged by Colin Attard and Colin and Stephen Attard respectively entitled “The Cross of Redemption” and “Be Not Afraid!” and Charles Gounod’s “O Divine Redeemer,, also arranged by Colin Attard. These featured choir’s soloists Rita Dimech, Annabelle Zammit, Marthese Borg, Francesca Sciberras, Terry Shaw and Joseph Buttigieg. Stephen Attard accompanied with the choir’s founder-director Colin Attard at the helm.

Attending the evening were the Victoria Mayor, Dr Samuel Azzopardi and Mrs Azzopardi, Mr and Mrs Frederick Azzopardi and Mr and Mrs Anton Tabone.

This week the festival continues with two other events:

Jazzin’ it up – Maltese trumpeter Adrian (Russu) Brincat, accompanied by Lino Cauchi (piano) and Mario Abela (bass), will jazz it up at the Kempinski Hotel, San Lawrenz on Friday 16th at 21.00hrs – a evening so different from the other events in the festival where one can relax and enjoy a drink while listening to top Jazz

2 Violins ….a cappella on Sunday 18th at 19.30hrs at the Jesus of Nazareth Church, Xaghra, the Gaudos Duo featuring Hungarian violinists David Land and Emese Toth, will give a recital of duets ranging from the Baroque to the 20th century. The Duo will be joined by guest Canadian guitarist Sean Gurd. The concert will be held in collaboration with the Xaghra Local Council.
