Public consultation for the eco-Gozo Action Plan 2013-2015The Ministry for Gozo this morning launched a public consultation associated with the second eco-Gozo Action Plan for the years 2013-2015.

The aim is for the public to have the opportunity to put their views forward and suggest ideas and proposals about the work being planned for the next three years in respect of the eco-Gozo vision.

The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono explained how in the last four years the Ministry for Gozo has been working intensively to design and consolidate the eco-Gozo vision and thus could start to coordinate and implement a number of measures to begin to make this vision a reality.

“This vision has been received and accepted by the Gozitan people as an opportunity to further enhance the potential of Gozo through sustainable development,” The Minister continued, “this vision has been built on ideas Gozitan people have suggested to the Government over the years. It is therefore the vision and the project of the people and the Government has made clear that it is committed to uphold a vision for a better future for Gozo and for all those who come into contact with the island.”

The first Action Plan launched was 2010-2012 of which 82 proposals were selected as priorities that could be conducted in the first phase of the work programme. So far 61 of the 82 recommendations listed in this plan have been or are being carried out at present. The Ministry for Gozo said it has committed to or is working on more than 140 other recommendations which were originally proposed in the public consultation and are also included in the document.

The Minister said that “It’s time to again invite anyone interested to participate in the consultation exercise which will run during September, so that we can continue to plan the work for the next three years. The work carried out in recent years was spread into four main sectors – the Economy, Environment, Society and Culture and Identity. It involved Local Councils, Committees and Non Governmental Administration in the Gozitan localities who were participating in this project for the the main objective, which is to make Gozo a better island.”

The public is invited to submit its proposals by Friday, the 28th of September 2012, via Facebook or on the eco-Gozo website, by email at or by mail.

A printed brochure is being distributed to every household in Gozo, this includes information on what has been done so far and what is planned for the future, as well as a postcard where one can write the proposals related to the second process of public consultation and send it in by post free of charge. In addition to these submissions, the Ministry for Gozo is planning another series of meetings with Gozo stakeholders.

All proposals will be evaluated along with those in the original document so that they can be selected as priorities for the second Action Plan 2013-2015 eco-Gozo.
