Verdi’s 200th anniversary celebrated with 'The'Masked Ball'The Aurora Opera House in Gozo will be celebrating the bicentennial birthday in 2013 of one of the greatest opera masters of all times, Giuseppe Verdi, with the three-act opera ‘Un Ballo In Maschera’ (The Masked Ball), on Saturday, October the 12th, 2013.

This coming Saturday Turandot is being performed at the Aurora, with world-famous soprano Maria Guleghina, alongside tenor Valter Borin, and local performers, Miriam Cauchi and Noel Galea.

The Aurora Theatre said that patrons travelling from Malta may leave their cars at the Cirkewwa ferry terminal to board the 6pm ferry on foot, and make use of the shuttle service in Gozo from the Mgarr ferry to the theatre and back. Opera patrons may catch the scheduled 11.30pm ferry trip from Gozo.

The service is free-of-charge but exclusive to patrons who book until Friday 12th October. Maltese patrons using their private transport are also urged to take note of a major traffic diversion midway from the ferry to Victoria, which diverts the westward traffic at the Xewkija roundabout.

Turandot starts at 7.30pm with doors being open an hour before. Colin Attard leads the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Aurora Opera Chorus, while Novella Tabili directs the cast. Scenes and set-design are in the hands of Novella Tabili, mounted and constructed by Teddy Mizzi (Stage Manager) and Anthony Buhagiar, painted by Paul Falzon and illuminated by Donald Camilleri. Props are entrusted to fellow Gozitan artist Dennis Mompalao.

For this year’s Turandot, a very limited number of €70, €60 and €45 tickets remain.

The Theatre would like to inform patrons that so far, it does not have an elevator (Planning Permits have been filed for the installation of a passenger elevator which should be in place soon). Therefore, anyone who requires some time or assistance to climb up a flight of steps is kindly requested to reply this email so that theatre personnel would be close by to lend a helping hand. In such cases, patrons are kindly requested to be present at the gate before 6.30pm. For further information, or if assistance is required please call 21559452 or email on info@leone.org.mt.
