Nadur Youngsters obtained an important 3-2 victory over Xewkija Tigers Yesterday at the Gozo Stadium. With Stojanovic sent off after barely five minutes of play the Whites had a mountain to climb to get something from the match but a goal from Anthony Portelli and a brace by Claudio Antunes secured the victory over the Tigers who are now beaten by Nadur for the fourth time this season.
The match, a replay of last season’s thrilling league final did not fail to the expectations and proved to be a tense encounter which saw the referee award three red cards and infinite number of yellows. Stojanovic was sent for an early shower after retaliation foul over Xerri.
However, Nadur took the lead afer 15 minutes of play as Anthony Portelli was floored in the area by goalie Grech and the captain made no mistake from the spot and gave his side the lead. The Tigers levelled matters on the half hour mark when Buttigieg tapped In goal as Grima failed to handle a Shields free-kick.
The Whites regained the lead early in the second half through Antunes as he headed in goal a corner by Simoncic and despite having Hili sent off for a second yellow they added a superb third goal again thanks to Antunes whose shot from the edge of the box ended in the corner of the net. Dos Santos managed to pull one back for the yellows but it was too little too late for the Champions who already had to bow for defeat against the Whites for an impressing four times this season.
With this victory Nadur went seven points over Xewkija and five over second placed Kercem.
The Whites will now face SK Victoria Wanderers on the Friday 18th and will take on Valletta on Wednesday the 23rd.
