"PN proposals are designed to enhance Gozitan tourism"The pledge made by the Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi that 10% of the €1,128 million EU funds will be allocated to Gozo, was reiterated by Mario de Marco, Minister for Tourism, in a press conference this weekend, “reaffirming the Nationalist Party’s steadfast commitment to Gozo.”

The Minister said that these funds “will finance incentives and schemes designed to spur and accelerate further growth and improvements in Gozitan industry, its economy and its product – ultimately with a view to securing the creation of more and better jobs in Gozo for Gozitans.”

“The wide-ranging, concrete and fully-costed proposals for Gozo outlined in the PN’s electoral programme,” the Minister continued, “represent further confirmation of the PN’s firm dedication to Gozo.”

He went on to highlight the PN proposals, which Minister de Marco said were “designed to enhance Gozitan tourism throughout the whole year” and included, “incentives for cruise-liners to visit Gozo; incentives to establish a transport service between the Grand Harbour and Gozo; incentives to encourage the development of new boutique and five star hotels and the upgrade of existing hotels and farmhouses in Gozo, as well as opening a health tourism niche – including by means of investment schemes to assist the set up and operation of private health clinics; incentives to encourage the partnership of operators in tourism with Gozitan farmers and fisherman to provide tourists with an authentic experience of Gozitan rural life; schemes to support cultural activities – including carnival and operas and the reduction of the ferry crossing tariff (to the rate charged to Gozitan residents) for Maltese citizens and tourists who spend at least one night in Gozo.”
