Klabb Huttaf, BirdLife Malta’s nature club for young people, together with Dinja Wahda, BirdLife’s environmental education programme for primary school children, have organised the Dinja Wahda/Klabb Huttaf ‘Walk for Nature’ bird ringing demonstration activity and prize-giving at Is-Simar Nature Reserve, Xemxija, tomorrow, Sunday, the 24th March at 12.30pm.
The ‘Marathon Walk for Nature’ is a 10 kilometre sponsored walk to raise money and awareness for nature conservation in Malta and will be attended by 60+ children and parents from around Malta.
This year the money raised will pay for solar panels for Comino Bird Ringing Station.
To help the children understand the value of their fundraising efforts, there will be a participatory activity demonstrating scientific bird ringing with the Klabb Huttaf mascot, followed by a prize-giving for the children who raised the most money.
The walk itself will take place on Sunday morning, starting at 8.30am in Rabat. At 12.30pm the walkers will arrive in Xemxija and gather at the Scout campsite on front of Simar Nature Reserve.
Dinja Wahda is BirdLife Malta’s and Bank of Valletta’s environmental education programme for primary schools, carried out in collaboration with the Directorate for Quality Standards in Education (DQSE) and with the support of Malta International Airport.
The Walk for Nature is carried out with the support of the European Commission Representation in Malta.
