Gozo Missionary Movement appealing for donations of itemsThe Missionary Movement ‘Jesus in thy Neighbour,’ founded by Father George Grima and based in Gozo, is appealing for donations of spectacles and sunglasses as well as exercise books, pencils, erasers and sharpeners.

Father Gorg Grima opened an eye clinic in Ethiopia where many children and adults are being seen for conditions such as cataracts as well as other problems.

In 2012 the Missionary Movement celebrated its 25th Anniversary and over the last 25 years, since its very inception the Movement took the responsibility to care for those children that are orphans or are suffering with AIDS or they have any form of physical or mental disability. All the children supported by the Movement are under twelve years of age.

Father George Grima was born in Victoria, Gozo, in December 1950. He was the second of ten children. He received his education in the primary school in Victoria and continued his studies for priesthood in the Seminary of the Heart of Jesus in Victoria.

He was ordained by Bishop, Nikol Cauchi on the 18th of June, 1977. On the 21st of September 1977, he went on his first mission to Brazil. He started his missionary work in the diocese of Londrina. After three years working in this diocese, he went to work in another diocese of Bahia and then worked for another seven years in the diocese of Mariana, state of Minas Gerais.

Whilst he was in Minais Gerais, he built homes for orphaned children coming from poor families. He gave them food, education and medicine. On the 3rd of December 1987, he founded ‘Missionary Movement Jesus in thy Neighbour’ and from that day, started his work in Africa.

Apart from Malta, today, the ‘Missionary Movement Jesus in thy neighbour’ has branches in USA, Italy, Gibraltar, Brazil, Ethiopia and Kenya. All supported projects must have the local Bishop’s approval.

Donations can also be taken into the Bazaar located at 309, Rue D’Argens, Gzira which opens every Saturday from 9am to 2pm.
