At the end of last year, the Xaghra Scout Group was given a property to be used as their headquarters. In order for this building to be used as the meeting place for children and where leaders can conduct the meetings, a lot of renovations had to be carried as the building was in a state of ruin. Leaders and their friends have been meeting every Saturday in order to clear the debris, level the ground and help out in whatever needs to be done.Nothing can be done without finance of course, therefore the group’s council members are constantly engaging in fundraising activities.
During the Gozo Half Marathon last Sunday, an area was set up in Xaghra’s square where homemade cookies and muffins were sold together with plants. There was a crafts area where children worked with Leaders to create different types of crafts. Display stands with photographs of the new headquarters before the renovations started and what work had been done so far. Another stand portrayed what scouting is all about and the type of activities that place during meetings, as well as outdoor events such as camps. Scouts and leaders could also be seen doing community service by helping out during the marathon as marshals assisting athletes when needed with directions for the route.
The Xaghra Scout Group said that “the leaders and council members are doing their utmost to complete the new headquarters so that it can be used for meetings as soon as possible. To start restoring the dilapidated building so that it can be used as our headquarters and be used by all our beavers, cubs and scouts, we need financial help together with construction material and skilled people to help us restore the place.”
“If anyone is willing to spare some hours and help us restore this new headquarters or would like to donate money or construction material please contact us on 79333398 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Donations can be submitted to BOV account number 40017114020.”
