Hyperbaric Unit at the Gozo Hospital resumes service

Hyperbaric Unit at the Gozo Hospital resumes serviceThe Hyperbaric Unit at the Gozo General Hospital has resumed service, the Government said in a statement this morning.

The statement said that service had been halted previously, when the Doctor who was in charge of the unit, had to take long-term sick leave.

“The Unit has been used solely for emergency services during the last five months for divers who needed to be placed under air pressure to remove air bubbles in their arteries, which can block blood flow and cause permanent damage.  Gozitan patients were being sent to Mater Dei Hospital in Malta for treatement, despite the facility already existing in Gozo,” the Government said.

The Hyperbaric Unit offers treatment to patients in Gozo for injuries related to circulation problems, infections and diabetes complications as well as an emergency service for divers.

The unit now has a doctor in charge of the facility and the necessary support staff.

Use the hyperbaric chamber for neurological condition such as MS, autism PTSD etc. Perfectly safe if used at 1.5 ata with 100% oxygen for periods of an hour at a time also for diabetic foot wounds. Also acne and psoriasis/
