Minister praises NGO’s support at the Gozo General Hospital

The Minister for Health, Dr.Godfrey Farrugia, said that all those who play a role in voluntary and non-governmental organisations provide valuable support for the the health sector, in particular by helping to improve health and safety for health care workers as well as for the hospital patients.
The Minister was speaking during the presentation of a donation by the Friends of the Sick and Elderly in Gozo to the Gozo General Hospital.
The Minister thanked Dr John B.Pace for the Association’s important contribution which greatly helped the patients and their families whilst they are in the hospital. He said that in total there are over 100 Non-Governmental organisations working closely with the health sector .
Dr. Pace thanked the Minister for the support given by the Ministry of Health and said that the ultimate goal of the Friends of the Sick and Elderly in Gozo is that each patient’s stay in hospital will be made much more comfortable .
Dr. Pace said the Association works on a volunteer basis and raises funds by organising various activities and also by collecting donations both from its members and also from the general public.
This year the Friends of the Sick and Elderly in Gozo entered its 25th year since its inception in 1988 and during the course of these 25 years the Association has donated numerous appliances for patients using the Gozo General Hospital.
The Associations aim is to improve the quality of care available for patients, not only by giving equipment, but also by providing visits to patients and other activities .
Present for the presentation were the CEO of the Gozo General Hospital, Dr. Nadine Delicata, as well as a number of health care professionals working in the Hospital
