Pay a visit to Isopu Tower situated between San Blas & Dahlet QorrotIsopu Tower, situated on the cliff between San Blas and Dahlet Qorrot will be open to the public every 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sunday of the month from 8.00am to 1.00pm. Volunteers from Din l-Art Helwa will be on site.

The 17th century Tower, which looks out onto a breathtaking view of Dahlet Qorrot and San Blas bays, has been restored to its former glory and finishing touches included plastering and cleaning the exterior. The inuaguration took place on the 20th of August 2006, following 3-years work.

The tower was restored as a collaborative project between Din l-Art Helwa and the Nadur Local Council. DLH signed a management partnership agreement with the Nadur Local Council to ensure that the use of the Tower for cultural heritage purposes will be encouraged and carefully managed.

Isopa Tower had been in a dilapidated state as parts of it had weathered while other parts went missing along the years. Its wide walls, a stone spiral staircase and most of the arches inside had to be built from scratch, based on the original plans, by one man, Leli Saliba.

The restoration project costs were shared equally by Din l-Art Helwa and the Nadur Local Council. The funds contributed by Din l-Art Helwa were donated by the late Marjorie Woolf.

The areas around the tower, are known as l-Qortin ta’ Isopu and il-Qortin ta’ Mangun. Il-Magun is a headland supporting a garrigue habitat. The site is of significant ecological importance as it supports localised species, including the Shrubby Kidney Vetch, the Tree Spurge and Wild Thyme.

Il-Magun is exposed to northerly winds, which allows it to support an exceptional mature phrygana (a type of garrigue) habitat considered to be possibly the best example of such a habitat in the Maltese Islands.

II-Qortin tal-Magun u il-Qortin il-Kbir is designated a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) – Candidate Site of International Importance. The site is also scheduled locally as an Area of Ecological Importance and a Site of Scientific Importance.
