Chairman of Students Maintenance Grant Board resigns over stipends

A report has been delivered to the Minister for Education and Employment, Evarist Bartolo, on how a circular on stipends was published without Ministerial approval. The report was submitted earlier this month.
The Minister said that he has accepted the resignation of Mr Tonio Briguglio from his role chairing the Students Maintenance Grants Board. Ms Diane D’Alessandro is taking over as acting Chairperson.
Minister Bartolo stressed that Government policy was to strengthen stipends and the Government’s position has remained consistent throughout.
The circular that was issued, which was dated the 1st of October, advised on the reduction or elimination of stipends at the Higher Secondary and the the Sixth Form in Gozo.
