Zebbug, Gozo celebrates the feast of ‘San Fortunatu Martri’ on Sunday

This coming Sunday, the 17th of november 2013, the feast of ‘San Fortunatu Martri’ will be celebrated in Zebbug, Gozo.
There will be a Pontifical Mass held at Zebbug Parish Church by Mons. Joseph Sultana, the Archpriest of the Parish of Gharb, which will be animated by an orchestra under the direction of Mro. Guzeppi Mallia.
Both Parish choirs ‘Santa Marija’ and ‘Regina Angelorum’ will take part during the Solemn Mass.
The statue of the Martyr Saint will be carried around the main streets of Zebbug following the mass, and weather permitting.
The statue of ‘San Fortunatu Martri,’ work of Chev. Agostino Camilleri was made in 1922. It contains the sacred remains of a Martyr Saint brought to the Parish of Zebbug from catacombs in Rome at the begining of the 19th century by the Mizzi family of Malta.
The remains of the Martyr Saint were kept in a sealed box until the year 1920, when the new Parish Priest Rev. Mikielang Cauchi decided to incorporate the remains into a statue of a young roman soldier who was Martyred in Rome.
