Update: The Students’ Voice committee, Gozo University Group’s representation at the post-secondary school Sir. M.A. Refalo, has expressed its concern over the current stipend regulation system. A protest was organised by Students’ Voice and a petition was presented to the school administration.
The newly elected committee together with other students, supported a petition issued by the students themselves, aiming to have the distribution of stipends revised. The committee said that the current system imposes an unfair penalty on students as it deducts a whole day of stipend to students who miss just a single lecture.
The petition has collected over 300 signatures so far, out of a total of 400 students attending Sir. M.A Refalo and the committee is calling on the Sir. M.A. Refalo school administration to give fairer treatment to the students in respect of the stipend distribution.
The Committee, which has already been present at this institute for a number of years, said that its main aims are to empower students to voice their opinions and engage in discussion about academia and also the more miscellaneous elements of their lives as students.
The organisation emphasised that it believes in the constructive education and empowerment of the student.
