Commemorative events marking the 175th anniversary of the titular statue of St George, in Victoria, Gozo, continue on Saturday with the last of the first of three catechetical celebrations entitled ‘Is-Siegha tal-Martri’ (The Hour of the Martyr/s).
This will take place at St George’s Basilica, starting at 8.00pm, when Rev. Dr Richard N. Farrugia will lead ‘sixty minutes’ of liturgical prayer and catechesis, drawing inspiration from the “graceful statue,” which, he explains, is in a pose of “jubilant movement, a virtue which transpires from a man of faith.”
St George’s Parish said that the three celebrations are aimed at preparing the whole community for the special celebrations which will be held in both April and July marking this anniversary. “The invitation is open to all members of the parish community.”
