Youths with special needs last week attended the first ‘Paracamp,‘ camping for all holiday in the Maltese islands, which took place at Fort Chambray in Gozo. It was a youth initiatives project, organised by Young Volunteers
The Parliamentary Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing congratulated the organisers on the work carried to organise this first ever Paracamp. A delegation from the Secretariat also attended the camp, following an invitation to the Parliamentary Secretary Dr Justyne Caruana.
The Parliamentary Secretariat reiterated how helpful this event had been and extended its support to the organisers for assistance with other activities of this kind for persons with disability.
The main objective of the camp was to integrate people with special needs, as well as other persons who do not have as much opportunity as others to be actively involved in the experience of camping, bringing equality between people with fewer opportunities.
The organisers said that it also helped to educate participants towards a healthy lifestyle through sports and activities outside the home. Para Camp introduces sports to people with disabilities and other problems.
20 participants, from the Santa Marta Day Centre and the Arka Foundation took part in the camping event and enjoyed fun games and educational activities to name but a few.
The camp was supported by the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps, EUPA, Youth in Action Programme, Beyond Barriers and particularly the Malta National Agency
