'The Trench' commemoration events for 100th anniversary of WW1Next weekend will see two full-days of action packed activities being held at Fort Rinella in Kalkara, organised by Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna to commemorate the 100th anniversary from the beginning of World War One.

The programme includes live historical re-enactments, film shows, guided tours, a reconstructed military trench complete with barbed wire entanglements, a military head-gear exhibition and the firing of a the Armstrong 100-ton gun (Sunday).

Also for this occasion, FWA will be holding a dedicated hands-on lecture about WW1 Gas warfare & equipment; exhibit and fire the iconic WW1 Vickers 18-pdr British field gun and have a full infantry section kitted out in the 1902 British winter uniform as used throughout WW1 on all fronts.

Food and refreshments along with WWI souvenirs available on site.

Programme of the events for Saturday and Sunday, the 8th and 9th of November:

Gas mask display: (in between displays)

Bayonet and Sword Exercises: 11.30hrs

War gases demonstration: 12.30hrs

Military Signalling and Artillery display: 13.00 – 13.30hrs

Foot Drill Display: 14.00hrs

Musketry through the ages: 14.30hrs

Cavalry Display (including tent-pegging competition): 15.00hrs

Trench and gun warfare: 15.30hrs Firing of the 100-ton gun: Sunday 17.00hrs

Entrance fees: Adults/OAPs and students: €10, Children u/16yrs: €2 .

FWA members enter free.
