Fireworks licences suspened following discovery of explosive materialThe Police have said that two men, aged 34 and 37, were this morning arraigned in the Gozo Court, in connection with the explosive material found last Friday, in Victoria, Gozo.

The men, both residing in Victoria, Gozo, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them and were conditionally discharged under several conditions.

The Court also ordered the suspension of their fireworks licence during the course of the proceedings.

Prosecution in this case was led by Inspector F Tabone and Inspector B Spiteri.

In a statement from the The La Stella Philharmonic Society of Victoria, referring “to the reporting of the last days regarding the alleged discovery of explosives in Victoria, Gozo.”

The Society said that it would like to point out that the facts occurred are those reported in the statement issued by the Police, namely “two people from Victoria were arrested after explosives were found in a garage in Triq Giuseppe Giardini Vella”. Therefore, the Society said, “any reference to the manufacture of fireworks connected to the Astra, as reported by sections of the press, is incorrect.”

However, the La Stella Philharmonic Society said that it “condemns unreservedly the isolated act by such persons, who have now been suspended with immediate effect.”

The La Stella Society added that it “regrets that, as a result of these unfortunate facts, the media’s attention has now been diverted from the cultural and artistic projects that are carried out by volunteers at the Society for the community.”

The Committee of the La Stella Philharmonic Society said that it takes the opportunity to salute the work carried out by the police in their duties, and that it has cooperated fully in the last few days.”
