Porche supercar crashes into the crowd at Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina show

Earlier this afternoon at “Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina’ at Hal Farrug, Luqa, a Porche supercar crashed through a barrier injuring a number of people in the crowd, some seriously.
Eye-witnesses say the car was speeding down the runway when it spun out of control and smashed through a barrier where people were watching the show close to the static display area.
In a statement this evening Mater Dei Hospital said that following the incident, the hospital is now on a major incident alert.
12 people are receiving treament at Mater Dei Hospital following the crash incident, it said. 3 of the injured are in a critical condition, while 9 suffered serious injuries. A further nine people have received treatment at the Health Centre in Paola. The Hospital has also issued an urgent appeal for blood donors.
Mater Dei Hospital management is coordinating an incident helpline on numbers: 25454032, 25453949 and 25453947 for queries on the accident.
Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, said in a statement, “our thoughts and sympathy go to all the victims of this tragic event. The people involved were all there for a good cause, in order to help others who are less fortunate in life. We augur that their generosity is repaid by coming out of this dramatic event without any serious consequences for the rest of their lives,”
