‘By The Sea,’ featuring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, opened AFI FEST 2015 on Thursday, presented by Audi, at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California.
The film was shot entirely in Gozo last year, will be released in cinemas next November, and is set for US release on the 13th of November.
The Opening Night Gala, saw the world premiere of ‘By The Sea,’ written and produced by Jolie. The Hollywood couple were given an enthusiastic welcome by the crowds lining the entrance to the Chinese Theatre.
AFI FEST 2015 is widely regarded as a qualifying festival for the short films category of the Academy Awards.
By the Sea follows an American writer named Roland (Pitt) and his wife, Vanessa (Jolie), who arrive in a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in the 1970s, their marriage in apparent crisis.
As the couple spend time with fellow travellers, they begin to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives.
Gozo’s unique landscapes play home to the much-anticipated romantic drama. It was the beautiful greenery of Gozo that captivated Jolie and in turn, lead to the decision to film the entirety of the movie in the stunning valley of Mgarr ix-Xini.
