The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, has launched the Citadel Arts Festival, being held for the first time as part of the cultural activities planned in Gozo during the summer.
The Minister said that this first edition of the festival complements the holiday season on the island and will offer a greater choice to the thousands of local and foreign visitors to Gozo during the summer months.
“The Citadel was once home to city life, and now newly restored, it has been given back its original prestige, with vibrant activity returning life to this Gozo jewel, which has already gained recognition at international level,” said Minister Caruana.
The Minister said that this event is an excellent opportunity to showcase local talent for visitors to the island, which will also be strengthened by the presence of foreign artists.
The programme of cultural activities will reflect life as it was in 1551, which was a time of particular significance to Gozo – the 1551 siege. It will include an exhibition of works by Gozitan artist to Chev Paul Camilleri Cauchi at the Cultural Centre, and the Siege of 1551 ballad, written by Gianninu Cremona and interpreted by actor Mario Micallef.
DCapitals Band Live@Cittadella brings an international dimension to this festival, the Minister said. Dr Caruana added that the participation of foreign musicians is continuing to raise the level of cultural activities in Gozo.
The Minister congratulated all those who are working hard to make this festival a success, and augured well to all the participants..
