This innovative service service will help the elderly to continue to live within their community Minister Justyne Caruana said.

The Home Assistants who will be assigned by the section, were given several hours of special training from professionals in the field, such as in customer care and geriatric care.

The Minister said that the service, will be provided primarily by Home Assistants so as to provide continuous contact and help to to the elderly within their homes.

The Home Assistant, will be, or is already, getting in touch on a regular basis and in addition will provide information to the elderly on available services and any costs involved, assistance will also be provided so that the lives of elderly people in the community becomes easier, especially in relation to daily chores.

This service will therefore provide comfort and reassurance for both the elderly themselves, as well as for their families, said Dr Caruana.

Justyne Caruana said that, as much as possible, the elderly should be able to remain living in the community and therefore the Ministry for Gozo has launched this Home Assist service, where the aim is to continue to strengthen what is available and address the real needs faced by the elderly.

      Dear Minister,
Thank you on behalf of all the elderly for all that you have done for the dear elderly and will continue to do. It is not an easy task to organize and prepare such a group as Home Assist who has in his care the wellbeing and peace of mind of the elderly.

One thing I suggest, that a special parking space is painted in front or near the elderly person’s house. The nurses, carers, and others are finding it difficult and nearly impossible to park near the residence of the elderly person. This is happening especially in Victoria where office workers in Victoria park their cars in the surrounding streets. The painted boxes could be removed as soon as the presence of the elderly is no more.
Thank you and may God Bless you
