Over 1,300 inspections carried out in first 5 days of spring season

The Parliamentary Secretariat for Animal Rights has said in a statement that in the first five days of the spring hunting season, enforcement officials from the Wild Birds Regulation Unit, along with ALE Police, carried out – over 1, 300 inspections around Gozo (32) and Malta (1,040).
The Secretariat said that 47 WBRU officials are carrying out surveillance work aimed at serving as a deterrent, as well as checking on observance of the laws and regulations.
During the inspections a number of illegal decoys to attract turtle doves were removed.
The ALE also carried out 157 roadside inspections to verify that hunters were observing the legal obligations of the special license and other regulations relating to the carrying of weapons.
