Gharb celebrates feast of the Visitation of Our Lady to St. Elizabeth

Today, the village of Gharb in Gozo, is celebrating the feast of the Visitation of Our Lady to St. Elizabeth.
On Saturday evening, the eve of the feast, there was a march by the Visitation Band from Church Street to the Square.
This was followed by a Pontifical Relic Procession, from the Eucharistic Chapel to the Basilica, presided by the Vicar General, Msgr. Tarcisio Camilleri, on behalf of Bishop Msgr. Mario Grech, assisted by the Cathedral Chapter with the participation of the Visitation Collegiate Chapter, accompanied by the Visitation Band.The feast continues today, when at around 1.30pm, on the initiative of the Gharb Local Council, in collaboration with the parish and the Feast Committee, the 17th Edition of the Infiorata, designed by Michael Bajada, will be prepared on the church parvis.
The local volunteers – adults and children – will start the painstaking work of the laying of flowers on the church parvis to form this year’s theme.
The programme for the evening is as follows:
6.30pm Second Vespers by the Collegiate Chapter presided by Archpriest Msgr.Trevor Sultana. Salve Regina and Antiphona.
7.15pm The Visitation Band will play a march starting from the Band Club towards the Basilica.
7.30pm The procession with the Visitation Statue starts from the Basilica and passes over the Infiorata – Carpet of flowers,.with the participation of the Rev. Chapter led by Msgr. Edward Xuereb, Judicial Vicar and parish priest of Ghasri. The Visitation Band performs the Inne alla Visitazione composed by Mro. Cardenio Botti and then accompanies the procession.
7.45pm The Leone Band will perform a musical programme on the band platform in the Square.
10.00pm Solemn entrance of the procession in the Basilica concluding the feast with the Antiphon and Sacramental Benediction
