Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana, has officially launched this year’s edition of the Gozo Ceramics Festival.
Synonymous with Xlendi Bay at this time of the year, the Festival, is now in its sixth year, and Dr Caruana expressed her satisfaction that the festival has firmly established itself in Gozo’s summer cultural calender.
The festival, which is being held in collaboration with the Gozo Culture Office and Munxar Local Council, promises a night filled with ceramics, art, music and entertainment.
Ceramic artists, both local and international, as well as skilled craftsmen, demonstrate their talents and skills in public, including sculpting, hand modelling and throwing on the potter’s wheel.
Live music will be keeping everyone of all ages entertained and a hands-on area for children to get their hands dirty, this is always one of the popular spots for families!
There will be live fire juggling shows, and live firing of ceramic pieces, so plenty for everyone to enjoy.
The Minister for Gozo said that this event is yet another attraction to further strengthen internal tourism, encouraging locals and tourists alike to spend a weekend in Gozo.
Dr Caruana concluded by thanking the “invaluable work” of the Munxar Local Council in Xlendi, Artistic Director of the Festival – ceramist Joan Haber, and everyone who has contributed towards ensuring that the festival will be a success.
Also during the evening the Xlendi Administrative Committee will be illuminating the bay with the magical fjakkolata, when hundreds of candles will be lit around the bay and on private balconies.
