The Gozo Creative Theatre Club regularly organises theatrical performances in Gozo, today and Saturday they will be performing another challenging and emotional play entitled Dear Nobody.
This play is adapted from Berlie Doherty’s award winning book and examines the problems and feelings of two teenagers, Helen and Chris, suddenly faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Can their relationship survive this pressure? Their families don’t help much, and the two have to learn to deal with their new circumstances. To help herself to deal with the shock, her fears and her anger, Helen writes letters to her unborn baby which she calls Nobody. The more she feels the baby inside her (or the birth comes closer) the more she writes the letters.
Dear Nobody shows many of the usual features of the Young Adult novel. It not only deals with the important social issue of teenage pregnancy however it also offers a gallery of characters whose reactions to it are varied but credible in modern Western societies. Helen’s pregnancy raises controversial matters such as sexual morality, illegitimacy, marriage, divorce, abortion and adoption.
George Mizzi will be directing a splendid group of actors who have been working together since 2002, many of whom have recently obtained high grades in examinations set by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
The Gozo Creative Theatre Club is well known for its experimental theatre performances which are innovative and create challenging forms of expression. This list of previous productions include The Vagina Monologues, Cindy – the Musical, In Holland Stands a House, Kickass Plays, Confusions and the Good Doctor.
