Gozo marks World Mental Health Day with awareness activities`Break-the-Silence’ is the theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day, which is observed every year on the 10th of October.

The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, in collaboration with Dr John Cachia, Commissioner for Mental Health, visited the Bishop’s Conservatory Primary School as well as the MCAST Gozo Campus, in order to continue raising awareness on this topic.

While thanking all those who contributed towards organising the activities taking place, Dr Caruana said that the theme chosen for this year is a powerful one and well worth reflecting on.Gozo marks World Mental Health Day with awareness activitiesThe Minister said that when talking about health, including mental health, we must be more proactive and consider the needs of all ages. It is also the case that there is an increasing number of young people, teenagers and children who are experiencing mental health issues, added Dr Caruana.

“This means that we must focus on these particular ages and have the knowledge to recognise and identify the problem and encourage them in their difficult moments, to get help,” she said.

Minister Caruana urged the students not to hesitate to resort to professional services, but also called for more inclusion and a more open society to accept different conditions, and above all to understand that we are always ready to offer a guiding hand to someone who may be experiencing problems.
