The Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana has officially opened the sixth centre for active ageing in Gozo, which is located in Munxar.
Dr Caruana explained that it has been specially adapted for the elderly, and made possible through an agreement between the Ministry for Gozo and the Munxar parish.
This Centre will offer varied activities in the Lifelong Learning Programme, including training in ganutell, digital technology, art, religion and current events, as well as physical activities, to name but a few.
The Minister expressed her satisfaction that Active Ageing Centres in Gozo have proved to be such a success story, offering the elderly a better quality of life, as well as being able to benefit from new services.
Dr Caruana closed her speech by referring to the active ageing strategy that had been launched and adopted by the Government, stating that this centre is a “clear demonstration of the Government’s commitment to continue to implement those measures for active ageing, providing the opportunity for more elderly people to stay in the community.”
She thanked Munxar Mayor Mrs. Sonya Abela and Fr Michael Said of Munxar Parish for their collaboration on this initiative.
