New academic year starts at the University of the Third Age Gozo

The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, at the opening of the new academic year of the University of Third Age Gozo, stated that, “the Ministry strongly supports the concept of active ageing and want to see it strengthened in Gozo.”
Also present for the occasion was Prof. Marvin Formosa – Director of the University of the Third Age, and Head of the Department of Gerontology.
The Gozo U3A Centre is on the University Campus in Ghajnsielem, where sessions will be held from October until June 2019.
Lectures will include understanding paintings; Girja hafifa mal-istorja ta’ Ghawdex, as well as a huge selection of themes and topics ranging from information on medical aspects, literature, history and geographical information.
“The concept of U3A can be strengthened and expanded further by introducing new services and classes, and this, with the full collaboration of the University,” said the Minister.
She added that “the elderly are not only provided with useful academic information, during these sessions, but they are also being active, meeting new people and socialising, as well as being able to share their experiences, enabling them to participate fully in society.”
Minister Caruana concluded by reiterating the commitment of the Ministry for Gozo to offer the best opportunities to the elderly now that they have arrived at this stage of their life.
Prof. Marvin Formosa urged the elderly to take advantage of this initiative as an aid to keeping themselves active and thanked the Ministry for Gozo for its continued support in this area.
