Make Music Great 2018- Gharb open-air opera and bandsFollowing on from the success of last year’s Make Music Great – the second edition of this 3-day band festival has been launched today, taking place in Gharb, Gozo, between the 23rd and 25th of November.

The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, in the presence of the Mayor of the locality Mr. David Apap Agius, announced the details of this year’s festival, organised by the Gharb Local Council in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo.

This year, the programme will include an open-air opera – Qasba Zejt – organised by the Gharb Local Council and the Ghaqda Muzikali Vizitazzjoni, on Friday, the 23rd of November.

Dr Caruana explained said that these thematic festivals and cultural activities “enhance Gozo’s cultural calendar and give added value to the Gozitan tourism product, making the island an all year round holiday destination.”

Minister Caruana praised the commitment of Gozo local councils, “especially Gharb which puts forward interesting proposals for the organisation of many activities in the locality, including the recent success of the first edition of the Kite and Wind Festival.”

She went on to thank the organisers of festival, including the committee of the Visitation Band of Gharb and the Local Council.

David Apap Agius the Mayor of Gharb, encouraged the general public to attend the three-day festival, held to mark the occasion of the feast of Santa Cecilia, patron saint of music.

He said that as well as the opera, eight bands will be taking part over the three days, three foreign bands, three Gozitan and two Maltese.

Following on from the opera on Friday details of which can be found by clicking on the link above, the programme continues on Saturday and Sunday:

Saturday, the 24th of November – 7.00pm onwards

Parade and Musical Band Program at Pjazza Zjara tal-Madonna, followed by a traditional dinner.

Sunday, the 25th of November – 9.30am onwards

Marching Parade, including eight Bands, followed by a Traditional lunch at Pjazza Zjara tal-Madonna.
