Gozo Ministry message in favour of inclusion for disabled personsIn this week dedicated to disabled persons, the Ministry for Gozo said that it is sending out a clear message in favour of inclusion.

This year, for the second consecutive year, the decorations in the Ministry for Gozo offices, as well as some of those situated in the Villa Rundle gardens, have been made by clients of the Santa Marta Day Centre.

The Ministry said that its official Christmas cards being distributed are the work of the students from the Sannat Special Unit within the Gozo College.

Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana has also announced a new programme -Opening Doors – which is being funded by the same Ministry. It includes music sessions which will be performed by disabled persons attending the Visual and Performing Arts School in Xewkija.

“In this way, while we give quality time to people with disabilities, it also gives them a chance to have a direct experience with a musical instrument,” said Dr Caruana.

Other activities carried out by the Minister included a visit to the Santa Marta Day Centre, the Ghajnsielem Learning Hub and the Arka Foundation.

Dr Caruana spoke with the clients and participated in the activities that were taking place. She also presented the annual grant from the Ministry for Gozo, as a contribution towards their day-to-day operating costs.

The Minister congratulated and wished well for the three Gozitan athletes who will be representing our country as part of the Maltese contingent at the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi.

Minister Caruana concluded, “Gozo fully embraces a spirit of inclusion and in this context we continue to work to foster a culture that is more inclusive, which promotes the skills and abilities of disabled people, not only during this week but throughout the year.”
