Over € 95,000 presented to Gozitan NGOs and sports clubsThe Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana has presented more than € 95,000 to voluntary organisations and sports clubs that applied for aid under: the Ministry for Gozo Non-Governmental Organisations Assistance Scheme and the Sports Organisations Scheme, launched in 2018.

Dr Caruana noted that this second edition of the schemes, had seen an increase in both the applications and the applicants, as well as an improved success rate.

She explained that in 2017 43% of those who applied were granted funds, whereas in this last year, the amount approved increased to 53%.

The Minister said that in total, 23 entities benefited through the schemes, with a total funding allocated between them of € 96 756.

The Minister for Gozo explained how these schemes have also been commended by the Office of the Commissioner for Non-Governmental Organisations for their “transparency and accountability” with more organisations benefiting from the “direct aid” issued by the Ministry.

Justyne Caruana talked about how the presentation today is testimony to this as it includes a wide range of voluntary organisations operating in different sectors of our society.

She also encouraged the members present to continue working in the voluntary sector in favour of their respective organisations as well as the Gozitan society.

Dr Caruana encouraged all organisations to apply through the schemes to be able to benefit from funds allocated for this purpose by the Ministry.

Justyne Caruana said that the schemes launched by the Ministry for Gozo in December, and which closed on Friday, the 4th of January, received a record number of 90 submission.

The Minister concluded by reiterating that this “is testimony to the correct way the Ministry operates – and thereby giving the opportunity to those organisations that are regularised to apply for funding.”

The organisations that received funding were: Ghaqda Muzikali San Girgor, Friends of the Earth Malta, Socjetà Filarmonika Santa Marija, Wirt Ghawdex, The Gozo Youth Wind Band & Orchestra, Dcapitals Band, Mental Health Association Gozo, Socjetà Filarmonika Mnarja, Gozo Half Marathon, Munxar Falcons F.C., Fondazzjoni Santa Cecilja A.D. 2013, Oratorju Don Bosco, Dar Guzeppa Debono, Socjetà Muzikali Santa Margerita, Socjetà Filarmonika La Stella, Malta Federation of Professional Associations, Ghaqda Hbieb tal-Presepju Ghawdex-Malta 1985 – Sezzjoni Nadur, The Scout Association of Malta, Arthritis and Rheumatism Association of Malta, The Classique Foundation, Ghajnsielem Redcoats, Xewkija Tigers F.C., and S.K. Victoria Wonderers.
