Xlendi regeneration plans announced, with extra parking and more sandPlans for the regeneration of Xlendi have been announced by the Minister for Tourism Konrad Mizzi and Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, during a visit to the area.

Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi gave details of the Government’s plans on a phased regeneration of the Xlendi car park to increase the present parking spaces by 60, with an investment of €750,000.

He also spoke about current ongoing discussions being held between the Ministry for Gozo, the Foundation for Tourism Zones and the Malta Tourism Authority on the “regeneration and sand replenishment of Xlendi bay.”

Dr Mizzi pointed out that this regeneration will “help to upscale Malta and Gozo’s tourism product whilst increasing accessibility to the bay itself both for locals and for tourists.”

He concluded by saying that the Government’s strategy for tourism in Gozo is to address further the seasonality issue and improve occupancy rates in shoulder months.

Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana said that the regeneration of the Xlendi parking is “another link in the masterplan” for this the popular touristic area in which the Ministry for Gozo is investing.

She said that this regeneration project of started with the rebuilding of the pier at the same beach.

Dr Caruana explained that the regeneration will also involve “re-allocating the trees and the planting of more native ones.”

In addition, in the coming days, a tender will be published for the regeneration of the boathouses located in the same area, the Minister said. “The benefits of this project will be felt by the numerous fishermen that make use of the boathouses.”

Justyne Caruana stated that the Ministry for Gozo is “working on improving Gozo’s main touristic areas.”

She concluded by saying that the tender for the first phase of the Marsalforn masterplan has been published and in the coming days the final tender in relation to the study of the Marsalforn breakwater will also be published and this summer works will start on the regeneration of Mgarr marina in Gozo.

      More concrete, more cars, less trees, will they never learn.

      Lovely little Xlendi has been turned into a concrete jungle over 20 years how much more do they want to do to spoil this little corner of heaven. They will live to regret it.

      Why not have the MaGo tunnel ending in Xlendi car park to ensure the area is spoilt?
      Will never bother visiting again…
