Cold and flu season having negative effect on blood reserves

The cold and flu season is upon us, and the National Blood Transfusion Service said that unfortunately it is having a negative effect on the number of blood donations being made.
There are currently many people suffering from colds and flu and are therefore unable to give blood. The Service said that the blood reserve, which had been in a good position earlier in the month, is now going down fast.
Faced with this scenario the Service is calling on Gozitans who are healthy, to please attend a blood donation session in Gozo this Sunday, the 20th of January.
The National Blood Donation Service pointed out that anyone who has suffered from a respiratory illness and has had to take antibiotics, that they have to wait some months before they can consider donating blood.
Donations can be made at the District Health Centre in Xewkija. The session will be 8:00am to 1:00pm (last registration until 1:00pm).
The Centre is located in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club.
The Service reminded that it is important to always take your Identity Card, or Driving License or Maltese Passport and to drink plenty of water beforehand.
The Service thanks everyone in advance who intends to donate.
