Book Club Gozo celebrates its first successful year on the islandTwelve months ago a monthly book discussion group was set up on Gozo and is proving to be a real success with readers. They said that Book Clubs enable people to meet socially and discuss a book and express their opinions and thoughts.

The group said that one of its main aims is also to introduce members to new authors and provide an opportunity to enjoy different reading experiences.

Book Club Gozo recently announced the twelve titles to be read and discussed during this year, beginning on Wednesday, 30th January 2019 with Having Said Goodnight by Maltese novelist and winner of the European Union Prize for Literature, Pierre J. Mejlak.

The club remarked that Malta Libraries staff based at Gozo’s Central Public Library in Victoria have been very supportive since day one. “They have provided a venue for the meetings and continuously publicised the initiative to library patrons.”

They said that copies of all the book club choices have also been added to library stock and library members can borrow any of the titles in the selection free of charge from a special shelf dedicated to the Book Club. Some of titles can also be downloaded using the free online eBooks Service offered by Malta Libraries.

“I have loved reading for as long as I can remember. I also enjoy talking about books with my friends, but sadly not all of them are such avid readers as me” said Mojca, a member of Book Club Gozo.

“It is the first time I’ve ever joined a book club and the one here on Gozo is fantastic! I like our lively, monthly book discussions very much – in fact I didn’t miss a single session last year. I really like meeting other readers and learning about writers from different cultures.”

Mojca concluded, “being part of the group means I can also try out the books for free, and some of the titles we have read and enjoyed would have previously been way out of my reading comfort zone.”

Details of all the titles and meeting dates for 2019 can be seen below:Book Club Gozo celebrates its first successful year on the islandBook Club Gozo is a free monthly reading group meeting at 10.00am on the last Wednesday of each month in the Central Public Library, Victoria, Gozo. I have just found out about the book club. I would love to attend but Wed mornings are not possible for me at the moment. Do you think any of your members would be interested in a writing group? I don’t think one exists on Gozo. I would be happy to organise one. It would meet for a couple of hours once a month where members would read their own prose and/or poetry, and have an opportunity to socialise.
