From today, fuel stations will only be serving fuel from the pumps during opening hours, and none will be available at all after 6pm.
The GRTU has said that this action is being taking after discussions with the government failed to reach an agreement, and was agreed during a meeting with GRTU members
The Chamber also said that operators will not make any payment for fuel stations licenses to the Regulator for Energy and Water Services.
“These measures will remain in force pending an agreement being reached with the government” adding that it is not ruling out an increase in the industrial action over the coming days.
The GRTU said that it had, in 2014 presented the government with a detailed study of restructuring that needed to be completed by 2020, with 80 out of the 90 fuel stations on Gozo and Malta needing to have equipment changes to meet an EU Directive, at a cost of €21 million.
Following several meetings with the Government, no progress had been made on the possibility of the government funding this amount for the required work.
