The Electoral Commission has confirmed that an Electronic Vote Counting System (E.V.C.S.) will be used for counting in the European Parliament Elections and of the Local Council Elections, which are being held on the 25th of May.
The Commission said that it is “satisfied” that the E.V.C.S. guarantees the correct result reflecting the electorate’s vote.”
In the coming weeks the Electoral Commission and the contractor will continue “to tweak the system,” it said, and to undertake further tests in the presence of political parties, so as to ensure a more efficient system for the benefit of all concerned.
The Commission added that it is “convinced of the system’s precision and of achieving its objective to issue the final result of the European Parliament election much earlier than ever before,” that is to say late on Sunday, the 26th of May or the early morning of Monday, the 27th of May.
The Electoral Commission concluded by saying that it plans to count the votes of the 68 local councils with the same E.V.C.S. method on the 29th, 30th and 31st May.
