Barred from visiting for art - By Anthony Zammit“My 90-year-old mother asked me if I could take her to Ta’ Pinu’s church tomorrow because it is some anniversary or birthday of someone dear to us and she is a great devotee of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu.

As she cannot walk far and we do not have a wheelchair, I told her that she would not be able to walk the whole distance through the new, beautiful mosaic so we can only go to the parking place, say a couple of Hail Mary’s and head back home.

Pity they did not think of a drop off possibility for the many sick pilgrims who now are barred from visiting their favourite Sanctuary.”

That’s a shame. As far as I know the number of wheelchairs inside the church are for public use. A pity you didnt go inside and ask about how to get your mother inside. I am sure they would have let you use one to transport your mum in.

A little bit inconvenient to do all that you suggested. I have to ask for more family members to come and give me a hand.

How sad and a sorry indictment regarding beautification and refurbishment if those who would benefit most from visiting the sanctuary are unable to do so – so often these days things are made to look better at the expense of accessibility – there has to be a better way – surely there is an EU regulation?? Saint Francis Square is about to endure the same type of make over…………….parking will be reduced – the steps up from the main car park will not be usable for those with mobility issues but it will look pretty………………
