Kaccaturi San Ubertu (KSU) in a statement has said that, while wishing all hunters “a good season” it reminds them of their obligation to “observe hunting laws and to report their catches in line with license regulations under derogation.”
The spring hunting season for Common Quail opens tomorrow, and ends on Tuesday, the 30th of April. Hunting is permitted between 2 hours before sunrise and ends at noon on all days of the season.
KSU also thanked the authorities for accepting its proposal to negotiate the lifting of the current moratorium on spring Turtle Dove with the European Commission. KSU went on to thank the ORNIS Committee for “acting responsibly by not recommending any risks at this stage.”
“The hunting of Turtle Dove under its current Vulnerable classification is permissible as per the EU’s own Action Plan 2018-2028 for the Turtle Dove,” the KSU noted.
It concluded by saying that “in view of the European Court of Justice noting the special circumstances for hunting Turtle Dove in Malta, KSU will persevere in its efforts to lift the spring hunting moratorium on Turtle Dove and offers its full assistance to the authorities concerned.”
